Antique Primitive Carved Wood Dough Bowl ca. 19thC
Included in this lot is an Antique Primitive Hand-Carved Wood Dough Bowl, circa 19th century. In colonial America, dough bowls provided a snug, warm place in which bread could rise prior to baking. A good bowl was handed down through a family, passing along the memory of Mother and the wealth of experiences that make a kitchen the heart of a home. In European countries such as France or England, you may find antique dough bowls with ornate carvings and decorative handles. These bowls were often used for special occasions or as display pieces in affluent households. In contrast, dough bowls from rural areas or frontier settlements in America were typically simpler in design. These bowls were crafted for practical use rather than aesthetic appeal, with sturdy construction and functional shapes. Antique wooden dough bowls are not just functional kitchen tools but also treasured pieces of history. The craftsmanship techniques used in their creation showcase the skill and artistry of bygone eras. This primitive dough bowl features a wonderfully and professionally crafted one-piece wood construction in good overall condition, integrated wood handles, natural age related cracks observed, scuffing noted on edges, original stain still visible. Measures 10.5"W x 24.5"L x 5.25"H, weight is 6lb, 8oz.
