Confirm it is an etching
Look for a plate mark, ink sitting in the paper fibers, paper type, margins, and signs of later reproduction. A printed facsimile signature is not the same as a hand-signed impression.
Condition matters for works on paper
Foxing, mat burn, stains, trimming, tears, fading, tape residue, and acidic backing can reduce value. Framing may hide issues, so verso photos are important.
