Lot description
Six Wood Cuts in a Portfolio Germany, 1915 Evarist Adam Weber (1887-1968) - German Expressionist Number 2 of a total of 25 in the edition Dimensions of the portfolio: 39 x 48 cm; dimensions of the sheets, each: 36.5 x 48 cm; dimensions of the printing plate: 9 x 7.5 cm Provenance: Berlin Private collection, originally Collection Freud (relatives of Sigmund Freud) This portfolio by Evarist Adam Weber, of which only a total number of 25 has been published, comprises six small wood cuts in mats: "Snowplougher", "Circus", "Children's' Work", "Homewards", "Ropedancer", and "Haul" (= all translated). All images impress due to their clear, reduced style of the German Expressionism; especially the image of the rope dancer is aesthetically very pleasing, with the dancer moving elegantly and the audience watching in delight. The wood cuts are in good condition, the paper of the "Snowplougher" has some creases. The portfolio shows apparent traces of age and wear and the mats are slightly browned and show some foxing. Each folio is provided with the inscription "Handabzug Mappe II" and with its individual title, as well as with the artist signature "Ev Adam Weber". The dimensions of the portfolio are 39 x 48 cm; of the folios, each 36.5 x 48 and of the printing plates, each 9 x 7.5 cm
