Lot description

The Peaceable Kingdom oil on canvas 24 1/4 x 30 1/4 inches backing of frame bears museum labels for Nelson-Atkins Museum, Colonial Williamsburg and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The backing also bears two old paper labels with typed inscriptions, the first reading The last "PEACEABLE KINGDOM" - 1849 by Edward Hicks. Painted for his daughter Elizabeth just before his death. Owned by Mr. & Mrs. Mark T. Swartz Great, great, great-grandson"; the second reading Mark T. Swartz III/from your great Aunt/Cornelia Carle Hicks
