UNTITLED 31 1/4 by 42 in. (79.4 by 106.7 cm.) Signed 'K S Kulkarni' lower right Oil on canvas NOTE Like other artists of his generation, Kulkarni was inspired by folk and primitive art and its transmutation into the Modernist idiom. His early works are executed in a semi-abstract Cubist style depicting uniquely Indian subjects drawn from his surroundings, generally treated in a narrative format which was akin to traditional Indian painting. The rhythmic geometry created by the spare crisp lines over a flat pictorial surface is similar in manner to some of Husain's early paintings.
