Lot description
This original mixed media artwork on paper is by the American artist Hank Virgona (1929-2019) and depicts an expressive scene inside a courtroom. The composition features three men in a professional setting, with a central figure gesturing over a desk covered in papers while two other figures look on. The work is executed in a modernist style associated with social realism, using a palette of muted browns, ochers, and grays with opaque white and blue gouache highlights. The artist's signature is visible in cursive in the lower left corner. The piece is housed under glass with a wide cream mat in a decorative gilded and dark-stained wooden frame.
