Lot description
This visually beautiful Art Deco composition was created circa 1920 by the legendary artist Daisy Makeig-Jones, globally celebrated as the artistic mastermind behind Wedgwood's famed Fairyland Lustre series. An exceptionally fine antique Wedgwood bone china plate featuring the vibrant and exotic Argus Pheasant design, executed in the rare variant where the central scene extends entirely to the rim without a colored border. The composition showcases a dramatic arrangement of stylized argus pheasants and smaller birds perched amidst lush, sprawling tree peonies. The brilliant, multi-colored enameled palette"composed of rich pinks, violets, blues, and yellows"is set in stark, dramatic contrast against a solid black ground. The entire composition is elegantly framed by a delicate, hand-painted gold gilt rim lines. Underside feature Wedgwood factory marks, the Portland Vase mark, and painted W1735. Artist: Daisy Makeig-Jones (British, 1881â1945) Dimensions: 10.625" dia. Weight: 1.00 lb 6.10oz
