Lot description

Samuel Lipchytz (Lipszyc) (1880 - 1943) Dancer with tambourine Chryselephantine figure made of patinated (or cold-painted) bronze and carved ivory. Signed on back of dress. Dimensions: 10.75 x 13 x 5.75 in. A charming Art Deco sculpture by the renowned Polish-French sculptor, who moved to Paris in 1900 to study and quickly became a leading artist in the field of chryselephantine figures. During the Art Deco era, Lipchytz—who, like his fellow sculptor Demetre Chiparus, specialized in depicting dancers—exhibited at the Paris Salon and elsewhere between 1918 and 1935.
