Dan Miller (Born 1928) Color Woodcut "Rooftops, Gott Island" c1980s/90s. Signed. Unframed. Excellent condition. Image 7.5"h x 11.55"w Dan Miller is a master printmaker and long-time faculty member at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). His work is deeply influenced by the time he spends in Corea, Maine, where he has lived and worked for nearly 60 years. Miller's printmaking style is noted for its "directness of process and expressive strength," a technique he first discovered during visits to Japan in the early 1950s. In Rooftops, Gott Island, Miller utilizes the natural wood grain as an essential compositional element, a hallmark of his relief prints. The piece features his characteristic bold, carved lines and a sophisticated, muted color palette that captures the atmospheric light of the Maine coast.
