Lot description
This modernist cast metal sculpture is by the Israeli artist Frank Meisler. The work depicts a Hebrew man, characterized by a beard, wide-brimmed hat, and long coat, shown in the act of reading from an open book. The piece is executed in a geometric, cubist-influenced style with a distinctive, heavily pitted and textured dark brown patina. The figure is mounted on a square, dark-toned wooden plinth. The back of the wooden base features a gold-tone inscription that reads Frank Meisler / Old City Jaffa / Israel. One side of the wooden base is incised with the edition number 241/250. The underside of the base is finished with tan felt. Dimensions: 5"L x 3.5"W x 11"H Weight: 3.7 lbs.
