DARIO DE REGOYOS Asturias 1857 - Barcelona 1913 Basque Port. c. 1885 Oil on cardboard Signed Dimensions 13 x 19 cm "This oil painting was executed c. 1885 when Regoyos resided in Irún and depicts a ship moving through an unidentified Basque port, which could be Fuenterrabía or San Sebastián judging by the silhouette of the mountains in the background. Its technique and the calligraphy of the signature (which is fully incorporated into the work) correspond to the year of execution. By using a palette knife and employing triangular capitals, Regoyos achieves a good effect of color and depth in the scene in this painting. He also manages to capture the movement of the water that indicates the movement of the ship." The authenticity of this work has been validated by Juan San Nicolás and it will be included in the next expansion of the Catalogue Raisonné.
