Lot description
18.5 x 23.5. This print after an original work by Fernand Boilauges (French, 1891-1991) depicts a turn-of-the-century French storefront for Fery Coiffeur, a barbershop and perfumery. The composition is executed in a naive folk-art style, featuring a seated man, a standing woman in a red polka-dot blouse, and a young girl in a blue dress, accompanied by a small black-and-white dog in the foreground. The storefront architecture is detailed with various signs including Maison Fondee en 1862, Parfumerie de 1er Choix, Service Antiseptique, and Salon Modern Style. A window display shows perfume bottles and a mannequin head. The work is a mid-20th-century print on a support with an embossed linen-like texture intended to mimic canvas. It is signed F. Boilauges in the lower right corner. The piece is housed in a simple black-painted wooden frame. 24 x 18 inches.
