Lot description

This pair of Royal Worcester porcelain figurines depicts the male and female Yellow-Headed Blackbird (Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus), part of the American Bird series designed by Dorothy Doughty. The birds are realistically modeled and perched amongst elongated green leaves accented with blooming purple spiderwort flowers. The male bird features a vibrant yellow head and breast with a dark charcoal body and white wing patches, while the female bird is depicted in more muted brown and yellow tones. Both figures are constructed of hand-painted fine bone china with a matte bisque finish and are mounted on white rectangular bases. The undersides of both bases bear black transfer-printed factory marks including the Royal Worcester crest, the bird's common and scientific names, and a facsimile signature of D. Doughty. Both bases show a small hand-painted gold monogram on the rear vertical edge. Dimensions: 9.00"L x 7.50"W x 11.50"H Weight: 6.00 lb 4.00oz
