Lot description

Arnold Ronnebeck (1885-1947) Rain over Desert Mesas, New Mexico 1931 The lithograph on BFK watermarked paper is dated and numbered 17 from an edition of only 50 prints in pencil lower left; signed by Arnold Ronnebeck in pencil below the image lower right. At a time when artists like Raymond Johnson in New Mexico and Paul Landacre in California were abstracting their landscapes, Ronnebeck was applying his modernist eye to Western landscapes like this image, and other innovative works with titles such as Rain in the Jemez Mountains, New Mexico and Eagle Dance. Around the time these prints were made, Ronnebeck had just left his position as director of the Denver Art Museum, a position he'd held since 1926. An exceptionally fine impression of a distinctive work, it represents only the second time this print has been offered at auction. This well inked example is unframed and in exceptional condition. Image measures 9.5 x 11, sheet is 10.5 x 16 inches. No frame.
