The sculptor was taught by Richard Scheibe at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. From 1947 he worked in Düsseldorf, his first solo exhibition was held in Munich in 1953. His works were represented several times at the documenta in Kassel and in 1964 at the Venice Biennale. In the same year, he was appointed professor of sculpture at the Düsseldorf Academy and was its director from 1972 to 1982. Kricke's sculptural works, referred to as "space sculptures, " are close to the concept of informal painting. The strict geometry of his early works soon gives way to free and dynamic forms. The artist's metal sculptures are mostly made of bent rods, open to the surrounding space, and appear translucent and frozen in motion. Kricke wanted to visualize his ideas of the unity of space and time with them.
