1991. Oil on canvas. Verso signed, titled and dated as well as with place inscription: O. DEBRÉ ocre rose de Loire aux taches vertes Amboise 91. 100 × 100 cm. Certificate: Comité Olivier Debré, Paris, 18 March 2026. Provenance: - Auction Christie's Paris, 5 June 2014, lot 206. - Private collection Switzerland, acquired at the above auction. Olivier Debré’s painting is fundamentally shaped by landscape: his close connection to the Touraine region and, in particular, the River Loire – which he repeatedly revisited since childhood – as well as impressions of the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts form a constant field of resonance in his work. These places do not appear as concrete motifs, but rather as starting points for a painterly transformation of atmosphere, light and inner perception. Landmark exhibitions in Paris, his encounter with Pablo Picasso, a stay in the United States in 1959, and artistic exchange with Mark Rothko significantly shaped his development. His brushwork gradually gained calmness and rhythm, while colour fields opened up into monumental, almost architectural compositions. At the same time, his palette brightened and developed an increased luminosity. The works presented here are exemplary for this phase. In ‘Petit ocre orange de Loire’, warm orange and red tones condense into a dynamic chromatic structure that evokes the light and colour atmospheres of the Loire region, while in ‘Ocre rose de Loire aux taches vertes’ a calmer rose-ochre field is enlivened by green and blue accents. Both paintings demonstrate Debré’s ability to translate landscape impressions of the Loire into an autonomous pictorial world constituted purely through colour. ------------------------------------------------- OLIVIER DEBRÉ (1920 Paris 1999) Ocre rose de Loire aux taches vertes. 1991. Provenienz: - Auktion Christie's, Paris, 5.6.2014, Los 206. - Privatsammlung Schweiz, an obiger Auktion erworben.
