Lot description

Robert Courtright (American, 1926-2012) Untitled (Round Pale Green) signed and dated 'Courtright '81' (to a backboard) collage 125.5 cm. (51 in.) in diameter Provenance: With Andrew Crispo Gallery, New York, 20 July 1981, where purchased by the family of the present owner, thence by descent Notes: Robert Courtright was an American artist known for his precise, architectural approach to abstract collage. Working primarily with cut paper, acrylic, and mixed media on board, he developed a disciplined visual language based on geometry, repetition, and subtle material variation. His career was strongly influenced by his time in Rome in the early 1950s, where classical architecture and structured urban forms shaped his sense of composition. Rather than depicting imagery, Courtright constructed visual systems that resemble fragments of architectural plans or ordered spatial fields.
