Maurice Chevalier (1888-1972) Autograph display black and white publicity photograph -depicted wearing his trademark boater hat and tuxedo, the image 7 ½ x 9 ½ inches within black card mount, with the French singer, actor and entertainers blue ink signature beneath, 12 x 16 inches overall; together with a copy COA. (2) Provenance: The collection of Eric Booth (1939-2025). Eric was a passionate autograph collector of many years, from six years of age Eric and a friend would regularly attend the Ritz Cinema in Wigan. By the time he was ten years old, Eric and his friend would collect and trade the autographs of early Hollywood Stars. As his is passion for collecting grew, Eric built up connections and friendships with people working in the film industry, this would later help him obtain the addresses to write to, to amass this spectacular collection. The collection spans 100 years and includes stars of Hollywood, British and American television, Stage and Music. Collecting autographs was a full-time occupation for Eric, he would write daily to his contacts, actors, actresses, stars of entertainment and their agents, sending them letters and photographs requesting signatures with return envelopes. He was tenacious in his approach, and he was known to make phone calls to follow up on his requests, every day typing letters, on his typewriter which is also included in this sale and posting them to the stars. The approach was very successful, this collection, completed by Eric between the 1940s and early 2000s, comprises approximately 2,500 autographs most obtained directly. Many of these on photographs, both dedicated to Eric or his daughter, and undedicated, in some cases with the accompanying replies sent to Eric by the Celebrity or their representatives. Included are autographs from the biggest names in entertainment, from the likes of Judy Garland, Charlie Chaplin, Harrison Ford, Laurel and Hardy, Clark Gable, Rudolph Valentino, Charlie Chaplin, and many more besides. Rarely does a collection of autographs of this scale, comprising such important names, and with such strong provenance come to market, it is offered here complete aside from a handful of Erics favorites retained by the family, it is offered for sale here by family descent.
