Lot description

Alay ng Hangin signed and dated 2001 (lower left) watercolor on paper 30" x 22 1/2" (76 cm x 57 cm) Accompanied by a certificate signed by the artist confirming the authenticity of this lot PROVENANCE Private collection, Manila Creating a piece of work that exemplifies her signature realism and her fascination with everyday Filipino objects and organic form, Araceli Limcaco- Dans’ Alay ng Hangin presents a delicate masterpiece that features an image of a sophisticatedly rendered calado embroidered fabric draped from the upper part of the canvas, as fallen, drying leaves are scattered—its movement of descent forever frozen in time. Through its stillness, the masterpiece softly expresses the concept of change as an unseen force. The dried, falling leaves hint at the inevitable transition, decay, and the passage of time. Transforming the still scene into a metaphor for life’s transformation and its subtle, quiet, and inevitable force. Rather than dramatic symbolism, the artist relies on subtle visual poetry to transform mundane subjects into reflections on life, memory, and Filipino identity. (Mark John Castañeda)
