Lot description

This work is an original collotype plate from Eadweard Muybridges landmark 1887 photographic study titled Animal Locomotion. Plate 159 depicts a sequential motion study of a man performing a long jump. The action is presented in two horizontal rows of twelve chronophotographic images. The top row captures the sequence from a side profile against a grid background, while the bottom row captures the same movement from a three-quarters front perspective. Centered below the images, the print bears the following printed text: ANIMAL LOCOMOTION. PLATE. 159. followed by Copyright, 1887, by EADWEARD MUYBRIDGE. All rights reserved.
