A Martin Brothers stoneware vase by Robert Wallace Martin, dated 1887, slender, shouldered form with flaring neck, incised with classical figures amongst scrolling acanthus leaf and swags, the neck and foot with bands of geometric decoration, in buff on a chestnut brown ground, incised 6-1887 R W Martin & Bros, London & Southall, 30cm. high Provenance Samuel Avery thence by descent via William and Mary Avery to Michael Avery and then to the vendor.
