Lot description

Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 102 x 76 cm. An important religious composition attributed to Corrado Giaquinto, depicting the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, one of the most significant episodes of Christ's childhood narrated in the Gospel of Saint Luke. The scene shows the Virgin Mary holding the Child before the high priest Simeon, accompanied by Saint Joseph and various secondary figures arranged within a monumental classical architectural setting. The work fully demonstrates Giaquinto's characteristic Italian Rococo style, highlighting the chromatic softness, atmospheric luminosity, and elegant dynamism of the figures—elements that made the artist one of the most influential painters of the Spanish Bourbon court during the 18th century. Particularly noteworthy are the delicacy of the faces, the richness of the drapery, and the theatrical construction of the space, articulated through architectural elements and lighting effects clearly influenced by Roman and Neapolitan art. The composition shares close stylistic affinities with the mature work of Corrado Giaquinto and with the models he developed for religious and courtly commissions in Italy and Spain. A work of considerable interest within Italian Baroque painting of the 18th century. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
