GRUNER 1924 PROVENANCE The artist (ledger no. 271, as 'Devon lane') Gayfield Shaw, Sydney with Australian Fine Arts Gallery, Sydney in March 1925 Macquarie Galleries, Sydney Private collection Christie’s, Melbourne, 21 August 1996, lot 337 (as 'A Country Lane') Private collection, Melbourne In a letter from Rubery Bennett of the Australian Fine Arts Gallery, Sydney to Gayfield Shaw on 3 March 1925, Bennett notes that this work was among the Gruners he had received from Shaw ‘this day’. Gruner lists the work in his ledger and notes that it was later sold through the Macquarie Galleries, Sydney. We are grateful to Steven Miller for his assistance with this catalogue entry.
