Lot description

Comprises fifteen (15) original 1768 Thomas Worlidge (1700-1766, English) dry point engravings from A Select Collection of Drawings from Curious Antique Gems, each crisply executed after classical portrait intaglios of real and mythical humans and animals. The plates in this set are all of human subjects and feature image sizes of approximately 3” high by 2¾” wide, printed on period laid paper sheets measuring about 10” high by 7” wide. Eleven (11) of the etchings are untrimmed with four sheets later trimmed. All impressions are strong, with deeply struck platemarks indicative of early pulls, and the group remains in generally good condition with expected age related wear and scattered foxing. Together, they form a cohesive and desirable selection of Worlidge’s 1768 182 plate compendium.
