Lot description
Pattuglia aerea al tramonto, 1933; Oil on panel, 70 x 101 cm Signed and dated Provenance: private collection The work is accompanied by a photo certificate of authenticity signed by Maurizio Scudiero, dated 30 July 2019, and archived as an authentic work by the artist Tullio Crali under entry number AF-TC 020 - 2019. ‘This work is indicative of the artist’s early Aeropittura phase, when the depiction of airplanes still looked in some respects to the formal synthesis found in the paintings of Gerardo Dottori. However, the upper section already foreshadows those aerial developments, as well as the cosmic dimensions, that would become the leitmotif of his works from the first half of the 1930s... The work almost literally reprises the painting “Flight at Sunset” from 1930, altering the direction of the airplanes, which here move toward the left, whereas in the earlier work they moved toward the right. It is therefore a complete and fascinating work, executed when the artist was only twenty-three years old.’ Maurizio Scudiero
