WEAVER JACK c.1928 - 2010 Lungurung, 2006 acrylic on linen 75.5 x 101.5 cm bears cataloguing details verso PROVENANCE Short Street Gallery, Western Australia, Cat No. 11504 Private Collection, New South Wales Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Short Street Gallery This painting by Weaver Jack depicts Lungurung, a site within Yulparija Country associated with important ancestral narratives and ceremonial knowledge. Painted in 2006, the work reflects the artist's intimate connection to the desert landscape, translating memory and movement across Country into a carefully structured composition. Fields of colour and rhythmic mark-making map the topography of Lungurung, suggesting water sources, sandhills, and pathways shaped by ancestral activity. While the imagery is distilled, it carries a precise cultural meaning, grounded in the knowledge systems of the Western Desert. Weaver Jack, born circa 1928, lived a largely traditional life before painting later in life, bringing a depth of lived experience and cultural authority to his practice. His works are recognised for their clarity and restraint, conveying both the physical and spiritual dimensions of Country. © WEAVER JACK / Copyright Agency, 2026
