Norman Wilkinson LMS / LNER / Lanarkshire Steel Works vintage poster c. 1930 40 h x 49.5 w in (102 x 126 cm) "Norman Wilkinson was commissioned to produce a series of posters illustrating the many different sports and pastimes that could be enjoyed within the area covered by the LMS. 'In the territory of the LMS system,' he said, 'one finds every possible form of sport-salmon and trout fishing, shooting, hunting, yachting, racing, deer stalking and, of course, the best of golf" (Railway Posters, p. 104). In this design, travelers are invited to 'Steelopolis', Scotland's industrial hub in the town of Motherwell-where a dramatic plume of smoke and bursts of electric sparks evoke the raw energy and spectacle of steelmaking firsthand.
