Jan Wijga KLM / Royal Dutch Air Lines / The Flying Dutchman vintage poster c. 1927 39.75 h x 25.625 w in (101 x 65 cm) This poster depicts a Fokker F.XXXVI, built by KLM's founding partner Anthony Fokker, soaring past the ghostly galleon of Dutch maritime legend, with the tagline "Fiction becomes Fact" cleverly recasting the legend as a triumph of modern aviation. KLM was founded on October 7, 1919, and used the Flying Dutchman motif across many years of advertising, updating the poster each time a new aircraft joined the fleet. This is the English-language version of the design. A variant design of this poster is held in the collection of the National Air and Space Museum, Washington, DC. Kunstdr.
