John Califano (Italian-American, 1864-1924) “On The Coast” large scale oil painting on canvas depicting a coastal scene with a group of people appearing to flock to rowboats along the shoreline. Voluminous clouds of varied grey to white hue in the blue sky. The scene is masterfully rendered with impressive attention to detail and a keen eye for tone and texture exemplified by the intricate smatters of rocks, greenery, and gestural forms of the people throughout the piece. Signed lower right. Presented in a custom gilt wood frame with brass plaque to the center middle point. Dimensions: Canvas: 44 1/2" H x 65 1/8" W Frame: 53 1/2" H x 74 1/4” W
