Lot description

Jacopo Amigoni (workshop of) (Venice 1682 - Madrid 1752) Portrait of a Nobleman with a Puppy, oil on canvas, 54 x 45 cm - framed, 72 x 63.5 cm. The portrait presented here can be attributed to a painter active in Florence around the second or third decade of the 18th century and influenced by the style of Jacopo Amigoni. The elegance of the composition and the softness of the pictorial rendering are reminiscent of his style. The subject's clothing suggests that he is an English nobleman, likely portrayed on his Tuscan property, as also indicated by the cypress trees in the background, typical of the local landscape.
