In 2006, the exhibits from the first group exhibition by Magnum members shown in five Austrian cities between 1955 and 1956, were rediscovered in Innsbruck. In collaboration with Andrea Holzherr of Magnum Photos, the historic exhibition was reconstructed at WestLicht under the title "Magnum's First," after which it continued to tour successfully in Germany and was also on display in Toronto until April 2026. Among the eight photographers featured were Inge Morath, Werner Bischof, Ernst Haas and Henri Cartier-Bresson, represented by significant early works, such as those on offer here. The photographs taken by Henri Cartier-Bresson during his stay in India in 1947–1948 layed the foundation for his success as a photojournalist. In mid-January 1948, he met Gandhi when the latter ate his first meal after a fast. The last meeting took place on 30 January, for on the same day the influential moral and political leader was assassinated by a Hindu nationalist. Cartier-Bresson also photographed the mourning, the funeral and the scattering of the ashes. subject to resale right Deutsch Silbergelatineabzug, geprintet in den 1970ern auf kartonstarkem, mattem Papier 17,2 x 24,2 cm, in sehr gutem Zustand.
