Lot description

Vibrant original mixed-media work on paper, signed and dated A. Pelaez 1959 lower right. This composition exemplifies Pelaez's iconic modernist style, characterized by bold black linear structure enclosing luminous fields of color, turquoise, ochre, coral, and soft greens, evoking stained glass, colonial Cuban architecture, and decorative ironwork. The composition is richly layered with rhythmic, abstracted motifs, arches, ovals, and geometric form, creating a dynamic interplay between line and color. The hand-applied pigments and visible brushwork give the surface a tactile, painterly quality distinct from printed works. Presented under plexiglass in a modern frame. A strong, authentic example from Pelaez's mature period, reflecting her synthesis of European modernism and Caribbean visual culture. Original work (not a reproduction) Art measures 24" x 18", Frame measures 31" x 25" Signed and dated (1959) Typical of Pelaez's mid-century Havana period Desirable palette and architectural abstraction motif A striking and collectible piece from one of Cuba’s most important modern artists.
