Lot description
Original Gloria Vanderbilt Oil Painting Flowers From Raphael 12 X 9 Inches With Recent Provenance, oil or acrylic with pencil on canvas, 9 X 12 inches, 22.5 X 19.5 X 0.8 inches framed, signed lower right, titled in script likely by the artists hand on canvas verso, contemporary painted float mount frame. Note: Over the last several years our firm has been dispersing the contents of the Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney Studio in Old Westbury, Long Island, New York for Vanderbilt Whitney heirs and there are three Vanderbilt family owned paintings elsewhere in this sale. While Gloria Vanderbilt was Gertrudes granddaughter, this work was discovered in Florida from an unrelated source. Our research with the Florida consigners indicates it was acquired possibly by a prior owner than the present consigner in 2013 and subsequently appraised for USD 4,400.00 and issued a Certificate of Authenticity by Chapel Hill North Carolina art appraiser Bryan Guarnieri in 2014 for the Chapel Hill Rudo family with that appraisal and Certificate accompanying the work. Provenance: Property of a Florida Gulf Coast academic whose collecting interests were twofold, with interest in Old Florida, Florida Highwaymen, African American art and outsider art as well as a second passion for Chinese decorative arts. Name withheld.
