Certificate Prof. Dr. Robert Eigenberger, Vienna, October 1973. Mario Nuzzi's interest in flowers was shaped early on by his father's horticultural business. He completed his training as a painter in the studio of his uncle, T. Salini. He soon gained clients with an interest in botany, such as the future Pope Clement IX and Giancarlo de' Medici. As the leading flower painter of his time, Nuzzi also collaborated with other artists such as Carlo Maratta. He was accepted as a member of the Accademia di San Luca in 1657. Paintings and drawings by Mario Nuzzi were published as copperplate engravings, including in the collection ‘Fiori diversi cavati dalle pitture di Mario de' Fiori dedicati all'Ill.mo Sig. Abate Talpa’ (Giovanni Marco Paluzzi, Rome, 1680). These reproductions were an ideal source of inspiration and model for artists associated with the Italian flower painter.
