Lot description

Verelst was born in The Hague and became a member of the ‘Confrerie Pictura’ in 1663. Around 1669, he moved to London, where he spent the rest of his life and was particularly admired for his still lifes of flowers and fruit. This painting, which probably dates from his late period (after 1710), displays an approach to light and colour that is consistent with Verelst’s oeuvre as a whole.
