Early woodcut map example from the German edition of cartographer Sebastian Münster's (1488–1552) Cosmography, titled "Cosmographey oder beschreibung aller Länder", published by Heinrich Petri in Basel. Hand-colored woodcut engraving on paper. Map depicts eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, covering the area between northern Syria and the Red Sea, with Cyprus, the Holy Land, Jordan and parts of the Iraq. Germany, 16th century.
