Lot description

Johan Coenraad ALTORF (1876-1955) A white earthenware commemorative vase (or pot) on a wooden base, designed by Johan Coenraad Altorf and manufactured by De Spin, Vlaardingen, 1946. Signature: On the legs, respectively, the monogram of Altorf and De Spin VL (for Vlaardingen). The vase was produced to commemorate the 75th anniversary (1866–1941) of the Nieuwenhuizen family canning factory in Leiden. Due to the war, production of the pot began five years later, which is why it bears the date 1946. The decoration of the vase features the initials of the factory's founder, L.E. Nieuwenhuizen. Altorf designed the model and the Spin factory produced the vases. At least 13 examples were made; the base is numbered 11. Has a hairline crack (see photo). Has a repair to the base. 57 x 31 x 16 cm.
