Wörlen Passau Madonna 49 SCHÄTZPREIS / ESTIMATE °€ 500 - 800 STARTPREIS / STARTING PRICE °€ 500 Georg Philipp Wörlen was a 20th-century German painter and graphic artist. After attending the School of Applied Arts in Nuremberg, he worked as a restorer in the Altheimer studio in Regensburg; in 1920 he returned to Passau and worked there as an art teacher. His artistic style ranged from Impressionism and Expressionism to Cubism, later also moving towards New Objectivity and abstract forms. Wörlen was a member of the artists' groups Der Fels, Gruppe der 6, and Hagenbund, as well as, from 1947, the Donau-Wald-Gruppe. His circle included artists such as Fritz Fuhrken, Franz Bronstert, Reinhard Hilker, Carry Hauser, Hermann Erbe-Vogel, August Philipp Henneberger, Reinhold Koeppel, Walter Mauder, Wilhelm Niedermayer, and Heinz Theuerjahr. His work primarily comprises landscapes, cityscapes, portraits, still lifes, nudes, and illustrations; he also developed a distinctive style in oil painting. In a broader art historical context, connections can be made to Friedrich Aduatz, Robin Christian Andersen, Franz Barwig the Elder, Leopold Blauensteiner, Hans Bren, Georg Ehrlich, Carl Fahringer, Josef Floch, Beni Ferenczy, Tibor Gergely, Gustav Gurschner, Felix Albrecht Harta, Karl Hauk, Wilhelm Hejda, Ludwig Heinrich Jungnickel, Rudolf Junk, Maximilian Kahrer, Eduard Kasparides, Wilhelm Kaufmann, Oskar Laske, Heinrich Lefler, Georg Mayer-Marton, Karl Mediz, Georg Merkel, Ernst Paar, Anton Peschka, Robert Philippi, Michael Powolny, Heribert Potuznik, Lois Pregartbauer, Maximilian Reinitz, Heinrich Revy, Albert Reuss, Otto Rudolf Schatz, Fritz Schwarz-Waldegg, Maximilian Suppantschitsch, Eduard Thöny, Viktor Tischler, Bettina Ehrlich, Louise Merkel-Romée, Frieda Salvendy and Lilly Steiner. Also particularly important are the influences of the New Munich Secession, the Hagenbund and the modernism originating with Paul Cézanne. PLEASE NOTE: The purchase price consists of the highest bid plus the buyer's premium, sales tax and, if applicable, the fee of artists resale rights. In the case of normal taxation (marked ° at the estimate), a premium of 24% is added to the highest bid. The mandatory sales tax is added to the sum of the highest bid and the buyer's premium. This amounts to 13% for paintings, drawings, graphic works and sculptures and 20% for photographs and all other items. The buyer's premium amounts to 28% in case of differential taxation. The sales tax is included in the differential taxation.
