In 1891, he was a guest student and, from 1893, a regular student at the General Painting School under Julius Victor Berger. He studied in the master class for history painting under Siegmund L’Allemand and Franz Rumpler. From 1899, he worked freelance and as a painting teacher. He was friends with the architect Max Hegele, whose house in Weidlingau he and his wife, Hedi Nowak-Reimer, visited many summers; both were members of the Vienna Künstlerhaus (Artists' Association). Besides drawings, gouaches, and watercolors, he created portraits, history paintings in oil, landscapes, religious art, and small-format genre paintings that evoke a Biedermeier Vienna of the 19th century—a favorite subject was the life of Franz Schubert. His works are on display at the Wien Museum (Vienna Museum).
