Lot description

Thomas McKenney (1785-1859) & James Hall (1793-1868), 'Okee-Makee-Quid A Chippawa Chief' Lithograph 1838, USA. A finely executed hand-colored lithograph depicting Okee-Makee-Quid, identified as a Chippewa (Ojibwe) chief, after the celebrated portraits published in McKenney and Hall's seminal work, History of the Indian Tribes of North America (1836–1844). The figure is shown standing in ceremonial dress, adorned with a feathered headdress and traditional garments, and holding a staff, rendered with careful attention to costume and ethnographic detail.
