Sidney Laufman (American, 1891-1985). This modernist still life, titled Flowers, is an oil on canvas mounted to board. The composition features a vibrant bouquet of orange and yellow blossoms in a simple white vase, set against a dark, moody background and a reddish-brown tabletop. Executed in an expressionistic style, the work displays bold, gestural brushwork with areas of textured impasto. Signed Sidney Laufman in the lower right corner. The painting is housed in a gilt wood frame with a wide, linen-covered liner. The verso includes a label from Gallery Art in Aventura, Florida, a partial gallery label with Woodstock, NY and Coral Gables, FL addresses, and a printed informational sheet regarding the artist and previous auction results for a different work.
