Lot description

An engraving from his book Cosmographia, hand-colored in watercolor. Dimensions: 37X30 cm Notes: Munster was a quintessential Renaissance polymath: a theologian, mathematician, linguist, and an important cartographer. He was likely the most influential figure in the dissemination of geographical knowledge throughout Europe. His book Cosmographia included up-to-date maps and views alongside broad encyclopedic information on the known world, and was among the most widely read books of its time. Owing to the importance of this map, it was hand-colored, and each impression is therefore unique. Condition: For a full condition report please contact: office@alma.auction. The absence of condition report does not imply the condition is good.
