John Henry Dolph (1835-1903) was an American painter best known for his charming and highly detailed depictions of cats and kittens, which made him one of the most popular animal artists of the late 19th century. Born in New York, he initially worked as a carriage decorator before studying art in Europe, including in Paris and Antwerp, where he developed his refined technique. Dolph exhibited at major institutions such as the National Academy of Design and gained widespread acclaim for his ability to capture personality and emotion in animals, especially felines.
