Lot description
Jan Baptist Lambrechts (1680, Antwerp - ca. 1731) - Interior with Festive Company Attributed. Typical work of Flemish painting around 1700. Oil on canvas, stretched on an old stretcher frame. Depiction of a company dining in an interior, with a festively dressed company seated around a set table in the center. In the foreground, a child feeds a small dog from his hand while clinging to his mother's lap. Meanwhile, she is engaged in conversation with a man warming himself by the fireplace. To the right is the monumental fireplace with a coat of arms medallion. On the left in the background, the view opens up to the outdoors with clouds in the sky and green trees. Characteristic of Lambrechts is the lively, almost theatrical arrangement of figures. Each person displays their own gesture, contributing to the overall concept of the “moving society.” The colors are warm and strong, the background kept dark. Age-related patina, uncleaned canvas, which still has strong tension. Varnish slightly yellowed, cleaning and new varnish recommended. Illegibly signed lower left. In original gilded Baroque wooden frame with decorations, nailed metal plaque “J.B. LAMBRECHTS / 1680 Ecole Flamande 1752.” Very characteristic features similar to comparable works by Lambrechts. These can be found in the Uffizi in Florence, the Hermitage in Amsterdam, the Museum of Fine Arts in Ghent, and the Pinakothek in Munich, among others. Frame dimensions: 55 x 46 cm. Painting dimensions: 42 x 34 cm. Links unten unleserlich signiert. In originalem vergoldetem Barock Holzrahmen mit Verzierungen, genagelte Metallplakette "J.B. LAMBRECHTS / 1680 Ecole Flamande 1752".
