ALBIN ROBERTS BURT (Wales, 1783 - Reading, 1842). "Girl," 1821. Ink drawing on cardboard. Signed and dated in the lower left corner. Measurements: 24 x 16 cm. Albin Roberts Burt trained with Robert Thew and Benjamin Smith, and began his career in printmaking. Realizing that he was not going to excel in this field, he turned to painting, specializing in portraiture, and making a significant number of miniatures of well-known figures. The known works of the master show a relationship with the upper class, perhaps due to the fact that his parents, Harry Burt and Mary Roberts were related to Lady Hamilton and Lord Nelson. He exhibited his work twice at the Royal Academy (1807 and 1830).
