ANTONI VILA ARRUFAT (Sabadell, 1894 - Barcelona, 1989). "Study" 1950 Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower left corner. Signed, dated and titled on the back. Measurements: 93 x 73 cm; 111 x 92 cm (frame). Vila Arrufat's painting, close to the spirit of noucentisme, is characterized by a serene and balanced realism, especially focused on the figure. This is evident in this introspective female portrait, resolved with a soft brushstroke and careful modeling, in chromatic harmony and sober atmosphere. Alejandro Vila Arrufat trained with his father, at the Escuela de La Lonja in Barcelona and at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid thanks to a scholarship from the Sabadell City Council. He was a professor at the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi (1949-1958) and a member of the Royal Academy of San Fernando. He exhibited in Spain and abroad -Italy, France and Argentina- and obtained important awards, such as the Medal of Honor at the National Exhibition of Barcelona (1942) and the First Medal for Engraving at the National Exhibition of Madrid (1948). His work is preserved in the National Museum of Art of Catalonia, the Museum of Montserrat and the National Chalcography.
