Documentary photograph of Running Fence, the monumental environmental project by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, originally realized in 1976 in Sonoma and Marin Counties, California. The work consisted of an approximately 39.4 km long, 5.5 meter high freestanding white nylon fabric fence extending across rolling hills to the Pacific Ocean. Wolfgang Volz’s photograph captures the rhythmic linear progression and dramatic backlighting. Verso stamped: Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie, Arles – “press print, no commercial value.”
