Lot description

WWII Thanksgiving Day, 1944 Robert CAPA Black-and-white press photograph from 1944 depicting American soldiers celebrating Thanksgiving on the front lines during World War II, photographed by Robert Capa. The image shows Sergeant Louis S. Wallace and his men preparing a turkey in an M-1937 field oven, capturing a rare moment of calm and camaraderie amid wartime conditions. Executed as a classic silver gelatin press print, the photograph bears an International News Photo stamp on the reverse. An identical image on the back attributes the photograph to Robert Capa and PIX Incorporated. The work exemplifies Capa’s warm, human approach to documenting war.
