Lot description

An original watercolor painting on paper by the renowned Alaskan artist, Byron Birdsall (1937-2016), titled "Mombasa". The artwork reflects the vibrant colors of the beachside city in Kenya, including sunset yellows, Indian Ocean blues, white sand beaches, and lush tropical greens. The artist married his first wife, Lynn Sternberg, in 1960, and they were accepted into a U.S. government program teaching English to African students in Kampala, Uganda. It was in Uganda that he started painting professionally and selling pictures for $40 each. This piece is signed and dated 1971, lower left, in the artist's customary block letters. It is shrink-wrapped on board and measures approximately 20.5" x 14" overall with a sight view of 20" x 12.75" .
