Lot description
A stone lithograph c.1979 by the late Alaskan artist, Fred Machetanz (1908-2002) entitled "End of a Long Day!" The work depicts a five-month-old polar bear cub resting beside an ice cake after having spent the daylight hours scrambling over the ice field in eager exploration. He has not allowed for the lack of darkness to night, and is momentarily exhausted, but he is building stronger muscles and stamina for longer treks in the midnight sun. Titled lower left, marked 41-100, and hand-signed in graphite lower right. Housed in a white mat with information about the piece en verso; some discoloration is present on the mat as photographed. Measures approximately 21.5" x 20.25" overall with a sight view of 18" x 21.5".
